Original German WWI KIA “Mail Home Helmet” Battle Damaged
Up for sale is a very nice and original German WWI M17, or Model 1917 Steel combat helmet that has rich history. Most interestingly this helmet is a mail home piece, still with the original shipping label and stamps attached. This is indicative to that of a battlefield pickup from the Great War. More so, this helmet has some battle damage likely from a rifle round that entered through the top, and exited through the front.
Looking at the interior of the helmet, there are no areas of the leather liner or liner band attached. Considering the other elements of the helmet, we think it is likely that the liner was removed on purpose as is may have wrenched from combat use and possible the battle damage.
Batch Number : R 1598
Manufacture : SI 66
