This German helmet is a very nice and affordable piece for any collection – it offers a great color scheme with its original factory finish as well as a complete liner band and areas of the original liner. These helmets are extremely difficult to find with pieces of leather still attached – making this helmet very desirable. An interesting and rare feature of this helmet is the dirt added to the right facing vent hole. During high winds, many German WWI soldiers complained of a whistling created by these open vent holes. To solve this, German soldiers would fill the holes with dirt to prevent the whistling. Finding a helmet complete with this feature is extremely rare and a direct indication of a combat used helmet.
