Original German WWII Named M35 SD Heer Helmet

Apart of our personal collection is an original German WWII M35 SD Heer helmet. This helmet supposedly was captured as is – with a dark black overpaint and named interior. The helmet came from a Veterans estate with a Luftwaffe KIA helmet and the one shown. The Veterans family decided to keep the KIA piece but actually gave this helmet away if we promised to share its history. We were told that the helmet was found in a German bar after its owner died. According to the story, once the soldier died it was donated to his favorite bar by his comrades. His friends all singed the inside of the helmet. When the US Veteran visited the bar during the war it was given away as an appreciation token for liberating the city.

We suspect the overpaint was done post war – but cannot confirm this.
