First established in August of 1939, these medals were awarded to members of the Wehrmacht who helped build the fortifications on Germany’s western borders. This included pillboxes, bunkers, gun emplacements and more.
The back of the medal reads “Fur Arbeit Zum Schutze Deutsch Lands”. The original medal packet of issue reads “Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen”.
