Up for sale is a very nice and original German WWII gas mask canister and gas mask. This set is a very nice example, with 3 unit / named markings on the exterior of the canister, and 3 unit / named markings on the actual gas mask its self. Overall a superb example, which is not often seen.

Named to : Kanonier Karl Zollmarsch 1. Bttr. Festungs-Flakabt. 31 (Gunner Karl Zollmarsch. 1st Battery of Fortress Antiaircraft Battalion 31)

Unit Information : Festungs-Flakabt. 31 was erected on July 1st 1938 in Trier, as the fortress Flak Division 31. Trier Germany, is a West German city on the Moselle River. In June 1940 over 60,000 British prisoners of war, captured at Dunkirk and Northern France, were marched to Trier, which became a staging post for British soldiers headed for German prisoner of war camps. Because of this, in December of 1944, there were three heavy air raids on Trier. On December 19, thirty British bombers dropped 136 tons of high explosive bombs. Two days following, British and American bombers dropped an additional 427 tons of bombs. Finally two days following this, another 700 tons of bombs were dropped. Between December 16, 1944 and January 2, 1945, the U.S.A.F. and the R.A.F. dropped altogether 1,467 metric tons of bombs on Trier. Festungs-Flakabt. 31 was formed and mobilized in 1938, being made of the 1st and 4th battery. Their task was to prevent air raids over Trier, and were stationed in the Porta Nigra fortress.

It was also marked K.Z.L37019 – 440 : or Field post number 37019.
